About the CYSCB

Welcome to the City of York's Safeguarding Children Board's website.

Our vision is "For all the children of York to grow up in safety and to always feel safe."

The City of York's Safeguarding Children Board (CYSCB) is a statutory multi-agency forum for ensuring that different services co-operate to protect children and young people in York. We seek assurance and evidence that the children of York are protected from all forms of abuse and neglect in order to confirm that everybody working with children works effectively together.

If you would like to contact the CYSCB Unit please write to the City of York Safeguarding Children Board, West Offices, Station Rise, York YO1 6GA

2018 -  Moving towards a new partnership

The Children and Social Work Act 2017 changed the legislation so that Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCB) would move towards new safeguarding partnership arrangements led by 3 key partners: the local authority; the police; and the Clinical Commissioning Groups. The new Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 gives guidance on the functions and duties of the new Partnerships

As 2018 progresses you will see the emergence of the new City of York Safeguarding  Children Partnership (CYSCP) which will still include the input of many more partners than just the ‘key three’. The CYSCP will maintain and continue the excellent work of the former Board, which led to the CYSCB being judged as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2016, but will take the opportunity to develop and enhance the functioning of the partnership and of the sub-groups.

During the transitional period, as the new CYSCP is developed and implemented, the functions of the CYSCB will continue. Once the full transition to the CYSCP is completed at the end of 2018, the business of the Partnership will carry on in very much the same way as before – but even better!
