Local Protocol for Assessment

We know that navigating Children’s Services can be complex, therefore we have developed a Local Protocol for Assessment.

This protocol has been developed to aid practitioners' understanding of:

  • what happens when a child is referred into Children’s Services
  • the Building Brighter Futures’ Practice Model and communication with children and their families and Signs of Safety
  • Lead Practitioners
  • responses to specific needs
  • communication with children and their families
  • arrangements for specific needs
  • how children and their families can make a complaint

The Local Protocol for Assessment should be read alongside:

The Families First national reforms will reorganise local services into integrated multi-disciplinary Family Help Teams, and create a Multi-Agency Child Protection Team.

There is an ongoing emphasis on Family Group Decision Making supporting belonging.
